Driving down the block is a different experience in the track-bred 2016 BMW M4 GTS. Will it make it over a speed bump? Will the front splitter hold up? On the latest episode of “Ignition,” host Jason Cammisa takes the M4 GTS out of its natural habitat to see how it would perform as a daily driver.
Packing 493 hp from its 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six, the BMW M4 GTS is more than most people need. On top of that, it’s loud and stiff, and to reduce its practicality even further, an acid orange half roll cage replaces the rear seats. But that visceral experience is just what we all want. “This is what we were looking for when the M4 came out,” Cammisa explains.
Of course, any visit with the M4 GTS would be incomplete without a lap around the track. Later, Motor Trend’s resident race car driver Randy Pobst returns the M4 GTS to its comfort zone. The hotted-up coupe proves a lot quicker than the standard M4, but how does it compare to other rivals? We’ll soon find out.
